After buying a flat in one of the most desirable Richmond locations, our client contacted us by referral from his realtor. The space was perfect for his lifestyle but lacked the character you might find in an older Richmond home. The owner showed us several plain, rectangular rooms with wall to wall shag carpet. He wanted a living space that looked like the family room of a larger home with a masculine, traditional appearance. He agreed that the best way to achieve this would be to add hardwood floors, new wooden blinds, paint and then curate the furnishings. The homeowner had so many beautiful antiques that we knew it would not be difficult to achieve the look he wanted. We recovered the owner's 30 year old sofa in a rich red, added navy plaid pillows and a navy leather recliner. We added texture with a sisal carpet and custom linen draperies. In the dining room, we selected an oriental carpet and arranged his beautiful map collection into a gallery wall. To finish off the space, we replaced the builder grade chandelier with a rustic, masculine fixture and added a complimentary roman shade. In the bedroom, a favorite blue and white lamp provided inspiration. We removed the shimmery, feminine wallpaper and transformed this bedroom into a dramatic, luxurious space just by painting the walls navy, adding in his existing art and styling his existing pieces. We also added an element of surprise by painting the beige grass cloth in the powder room barn red (which was his favorite color). Now, he can live happily in his 'Apartment, Sweet Apartment!'
