The necessity of this kitchen renovation became apparent to this father of three when his wife was away from home and he was cooking for the family. We had met months earlier while working with his firm to renovate a Shockhoe Slip property. It was wonderful to hear from him and meet and work with his lovely wife (upon her return) on the new kitchen design. She loves to cook and wanted the kitchen to be a gathering spot for the entire family. Her input and ideas were a fun and invaluable part of the design process. We started by widening and relocating doorways, replacing the window over the sink and French doors and removing the old laminate flooring and replacing with new hardwood floors in the kitchen and into the den. All of the old cabinetry and countertops were removed and replaced with beautiful custom cabinets, appliances and countertops. Adding features such as a hidden trash pull out, and spice and utensil rack pull outs were just a few of the design details that went a long way to keep the counters clear and clutter to a minimum.
This previously dark space was brightened with warm, white cabinetry and light blue walls as well as a new lighting design. These changes made the kitchen look larger, fresher and more functional for this couple. Now, the family enjoys gathering in their new kitchen to pack lunches, bake cookies and prepare meals together around their new, large island.
